A trip into the province

A student of mine, Ricardo, invited me and Brad to join him and his girlfriend, Karin on a overnight trip to Navarro, a small town in the province of Buenos Aires. We met up with them at Alto Palermo Shopping and caught a small bus out of the city. After a couple of hours we arrived. It was Sunday afternoon, very quite in the small country town, but it was fantastic to be out of the hectic crazy city! We checked into our No Star Hotel and then decided to do a little exploring. Ricardo is a train and railroad fanatic, so he was very eager to show us the local station. The railway stopped running to Navarro many years ago, however the station master has with his own funds and with some donations from visitors made the most interesting museum out of the old train station. It was a really interesting afternoon.

Some info on the railway network
Argentine Railway network comprised 47,000 km (29,204 mi) of track at the end of the Second World War and was, in its time, one of the most extensive and prosperous in South America. However, with the increase in highway construction and the break-up in 1993 of Ferrocarriles Argentinos (FA), the state railroad corporation, there followed a sharp decline in railway profitability. Since that time several private and provincial railway companies have been created and have resurrected some of the major passenger routes that FA once operated. k The railroad network today, is now far smaller than it once was.

It was back to the hotel and a quick get ready for the Asado of the year......................
